Life at NRBS
What it is actually like working at NR Building Solutions — the crew, the rhythm of a programme, and who this suits.
You work with the same people
This is the part most people do not expect to matter and then find matters most.
Because we self-perform and because crews deploy together for the length of a programme, you work with the same people every day for weeks. Not a rotating cast of subcontractors, not whoever the agency sent.
That changes the work. A crew that has done thirty floors together does not need instructions. It also changes the away-from-home part, because you are away with people you know rather than alone in a motel in a town you have never been to.
The rhythm of a programme
A deployment has a shape. You arrive, you set up, you work through a community unit by unit, and you finish. There is a beginning and an end and a visible result, which is more than a lot of construction work offers.
Then you go somewhere else and do it again.
Some people find that deeply satisfying. Some people find it monotonous. Both reactions are reasonable and it is worth being honest with yourself about which one you are before you apply.
Getting good at something
Most days are one scope repeated across homes. That means you get properly good — fast, accurate, confident — in a way that doing a different trade every day never produces.
If your ambition is to be a generalist who can do a bit of everything, this is not the right shop. If it is to be genuinely excellent at a trade and then lead a crew doing it, it is a good one.
Who this suits
Being direct about it saves everybody time:
It suits you if you would rather work with a settled crew than a rotating one, you do not mind being away from home, you like a job with a visible finish line, and you would rather be very good at something than adequate at everything.
It does not suit you if you need to be home every night. That is not a criticism and it is not something we can work around — the communities are where they are, and we would rather say it here than have you find out in your second week.
The terms are on traveling crew life. Read that page before you apply, not after.
Common questions
Recruitment fraud notice
People impersonate construction companies to defraud job seekers. It is common, it works because our industry hires quickly and informally, and it costs people money they cannot spare.
NR Building Solutions will never, under any circumstances:
- Ask you to pay for anything — training, equipment, a background check, or a uniform
- Ask for your bank details, card number or Social Security number before an offer
- Send you a cheque and ask you to forward part of it anywhere
- Make you an offer without a conversation with a real person at NRBS
- Conduct hiring entirely over a messaging app
Every genuine offer from us follows a conversation with someone at NRBS whose name you know. If something you have received does not match that, it did not come from us — call (713) 923-0835 and we will tell you straight away.
