Field crew
What working on an NR Building Solutions field crew actually involves day to day — the scopes, what we teach you, and what we expect on site in an occupied community.
The work
You will be renovating homes in manufactured housing communities. Demolition and haul-off, subfloor, flooring, walls, paint, kitchens and baths, skirting, exteriors and roofs.
Whole communities at a time rather than one scattered work order after another, which changes the job in a way that is hard to appreciate until you have done both. A crew that does forty floors in one community gets faster, gets better, and knows exactly what it is walking into each morning.
What we teach you
Manufactured housing is genuinely different from site-built construction and nobody arrives knowing it:
- VOG wall panels — vinyl over gypsum, with batten strips at the seams, instead of taped drywall
- Belly wrap — the sealed membrane under the floor, and why it comes before everything above it
- Piers and tie-downs — the home sits on blocking and anchors rather than a foundation, and it moves
- HUD wind and roof-load zones — the same model of home takes a different roof and different anchoring depending on where it is
If you come from residential or commercial construction, you will be relearning a few things. That is normal and it takes weeks, not years.
What we expect on site
People live where we work. Children play there.
That means site conduct is part of the job rather than an afterthought. Park where you are told. No radios. Tidy at the end of every day, not just at the end of the job. If a resident asks you for something, take it to the site lead rather than agreeing to it — a promise made at a doorstep becomes the company's promise, and it is usually one nobody can keep.
The community manager page sets out the same standards from the client's side. It is the same document; you are the person it is about.
Safety
Orientation before your first day on a site. Toolbox talks every week, documented. Fall protection on roof work regardless of how short the job is — the short job is where falls happen. PPE is issued, not expected, and replaced when it wears out.
If something on a site is not safe, stopping is the right call and it is never held against you.
See training and safety.
Travel
Most field roles travel. Crews go to the community and stay near it for the length of the programme.
That is the trade and it is worth understanding properly before you apply — the traveling crew life page sets out the rotation, the lodging and what a typical deployment looks like.
Common questions
Recruitment fraud notice
People impersonate construction companies to defraud job seekers. It is common, it works because our industry hires quickly and informally, and it costs people money they cannot spare.
NR Building Solutions will never, under any circumstances:
- Ask you to pay for anything — training, equipment, a background check, or a uniform
- Ask for your bank details, card number or Social Security number before an offer
- Send you a cheque and ask you to forward part of it anywhere
- Make you an offer without a conversation with a real person at NRBS
- Conduct hiring entirely over a messaging app
Every genuine offer from us follows a conversation with someone at NRBS whose name you know. If something you have received does not match that, it did not come from us — call (713) 923-0835 and we will tell you straight away.
