Training and safety
Orientation before your first day, weekly documented toolbox talks, task-specific training, and what happens after an incident at NR Building Solutions.
Before your first day
Orientation happens before you are on a site, not during your first week.
It covers the safety programme, the hazards specific to manufactured housing work — working underneath a home, working at height on units without conventional roof access, electrical work on existing services of unknown condition — and site conduct in an occupied community.
That last one is genuinely part of safety here rather than a courtesy item. The public on our job sites is residents and their children, which is a different site-control problem from a fenced commercial project.
Every week
Toolbox talks on active jobs, weekly, documented and recorded against the job rather than signed and filed. A talk nobody can show happened is a talk that did not happen as far as anyone reviewing it is concerned — and more to the point, the record is how we find out which topics keep needing repeating.
Tied to the scope
Task-specific training is checked against the crew actually assigned to the work, not against the company:
- Working at height — fall protection on roof work regardless of how short the job is. The short job is where falls happen.
- Working under a home — access, support and confined-space discipline for belly, pier and utility work.
- Electrical — lockout and verification before work on or near an existing service of unknown condition.
- Heat — water, rest and shade planning on southern summer work. A real exposure in this trade rather than a formality.
After an incident
Report, investigate, correct, record.
The part that decides whether that sequence is worth anything is whether the correction goes back into the programme. An investigation that ends with somebody being spoken to has identified who was involved rather than why it was possible.
The question we require an investigation to answer is what would have to change for the same circumstances to produce a different outcome — and then whether that change was actually made.
Stopping work
If something is not safe, stop. Every time, without exception, and it is never held against you.
A crew member who stops and turns out to be wrong has cost an hour. A crew member who does not stop and turns out to be right has cost a great deal more.
The full company safety position, including how we benchmark our record, is on company safety.
Common questions
Recruitment fraud notice
People impersonate construction companies to defraud job seekers. It is common, it works because our industry hires quickly and informally, and it costs people money they cannot spare.
NR Building Solutions will never, under any circumstances:
- Ask you to pay for anything — training, equipment, a background check, or a uniform
- Ask for your bank details, card number or Social Security number before an offer
- Send you a cheque and ask you to forward part of it anywhere
- Make you an offer without a conversation with a real person at NRBS
- Conduct hiring entirely over a messaging app
Every genuine offer from us follows a conversation with someone at NRBS whose name you know. If something you have received does not match that, it did not come from us — call (713) 923-0835 and we will tell you straight away.
